In a Huge move, the Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday passed a unanimous resolution urging the Centre to rename Pune’s Lohegaon Airport as “Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj International Airport.” The resolution, which gained widespread support from all members of the assembly, highlights the region’s cultural and historical significance, seeking to honour the revered saint and his contributions to Maharashtra’s spiritual and social fabric.
The resolution will now be forwarded to the Civil Aviation Ministry for review and necessary action. Supporters of the proposal emphasise that renaming the airport after Sant Tukaram Maharaj would not only celebrate his legacy but also serve as a tribute to the values he championed, promoting Maharashtra’s rich heritage on the global stage.
