Pilgrims attending the 2025 Mahakumbh Mela will be treated to a stunning visual spectacle as the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department plans to host a grand drone show in the Sangam area. This show will feature approximately 2,000 illuminated drones, showcasing scenes of religious and spiritual significance, including the iconic ‘Samudra Manthan’ (ocean churning).
The Mahakumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, is expected to attract around 400 million participants between January 13 and February 26, 2025, surpassing the population of the United States. The event takes place at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, drawing millions of devotees and tourists to Prayagraj in northern India.
A Unique Visual Experience
According to District Tourism Officer Aparajita Singh, the drone show will be held during the opening and closing ceremonies of the event, illuminating the evening skies with legendary tales from ‘Prayag Mahatmyam’ and Mahakumbh. “The spectacular show will depict iconic events like the mythical Samudra Manthan and the emergence of the Amrit Kalash (nectar pot), creating a magical visual narrative,” Singh stated.
The show aims to highlight the religious and spiritual significance of Prayagraj, providing a unique experience for both pilgrims and locals. Preparations for Mahakumbh 2025 are in full swing, reflecting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision of a grand and spiritually enriching festival.
Enhancements and Attractions
In addition to the drone show, the Uttar Pradesh government is undertaking extensive development and beautification projects across temples, Ganga ghats, parks, roads, and flyovers in Prayagraj. Visitors can look forward to several new attractions during the festival, including floating restaurants, water activities, hot air balloons, and laser light shows.
Starting in the first week of January, a musical fountain laser show on the Yamuna River at Kali Ghat will offer a mesmerizing experience for tourists. The lighting drone show is anticipated to be a highlight of the Mahakumbh, promising to create unforgettable memories for both visitors and residents of Prayagraj.
