Maha Kumbh ‘Sangam Water Pure For Drinking!’: Yogi Adityanath Calls Bacteria Report An ‘Attempt To Hurt Faith’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath strongly condemned baseless allegations and misinformation campaigns against Sanatan Dharma, Maa Ganga, and the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. Speaking on Wednesday, he asserted that spreading fake videos and propaganda against the sacred event was an insult to the faith of millions who have participated in the holy dip.

He further dismissed concerns about water quality, insisting that the Sangam’s water is not only suitable for taking a dip but also safe for drinking. His remarks came after the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported faecal coliform levels at certain locations in Prayagraj, suggesting potential contamination in the bathing waters. However, Yogi Adityanath termed these concerns as an attempt to malign the grandeur of the Maha Kumbh.

CPCB Report Raises Concerns Over Water Quality

Earlier this week, the CPCB informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that water samples collected from multiple sites in Prayagraj did not meet primary standards for bathing due to high faecal coliform levels. Faecal coliform bacteria, found in the intestines of humans and animals, indicate potential contamination and the presence of harmful pathogens.

Despite these findings, CM Yogi remained firm in his stance, dismissing allegations that could tarnish the image of the religious event. He highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring clean and safe water for devotees and accused certain groups of attempting to spread unnecessary fear.

CM Yogi on Maha Kumbh Stampede and Devotee Turnout

Addressing the UP Assembly, Yogi Adityanath emphasised that the Maha Kumbh is a societal event, not linked to any particular party or organization. He stated that his government was privileged to be associated with this once-in-a-century event, which has drawn global participation and immense success despite attempts to derail its reputation.

With seven days remaining in the Maha Kumbh, the chief minister revealed that over 56 crore devotees had already taken a holy dip in the Sangam. The massive turnout reflects the deep-rooted faith of pilgrims and the event’s significance on a global scale.

Condolences for Stampede Victims

Offering condolences to those affected by the stampede on January 29, Yogi Adityanath expressed sympathy for the victims and their families. He also acknowledged those who lost their lives in road accidents while traveling for Kumbh. He assured that the government stands with the affected families and will provide all possible assistance.

However, he criticized the politicization of the tragedy, urging opposition leaders to refrain from exploiting such incidents for their agendas. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring safety and smooth operations for the remainder of the grand event.

As the Maha Kumbh nears its conclusion, the Yogi government continues to counter misinformation while ensuring the smooth execution of one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.
