A shocking case of dowry violence has emerged from Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district. A 23-year-old woman, Khushboo Pipliya, survived after her husband allegedly tied her up, beat her, and pressed a heated knife into her mouth and body. The attack left her with severe burns across her arms, torso, and legs.

Torture Over Dowry Demand

Khushboo Pipliya married earlier this year, in February. She told police that her husband had disliked her since the marriage and often pressured her for dowry. On Sunday night, he allegedly got drunk, tied her hands and feet, and dragged her into the kitchen. She said, “He told me that I was unwanted and that this marriage was forced on him by his parents.”

According to her, he even pressed what looked like a gun to her head before burning her with a heated knife. Despite her screams, the torture continued inside the house, where other family members were also present.

Escape & Rescue

On Monday morning, Khushboo Pipliya managed to free herself. She called her family for assistance after borrowing a phone from a domestic worker. Lokesh Verma, her father, instructed his younger son to take her home right away.

The family rushed her to the district hospital in Awarkachh. Doctors confirmed she had multiple burn injuries caused by a hot knife. The police recorded her statement soon after.

Family’s Complaint and Threats

Her family complained to the Mengaon police station. However, they claimed that they were threatened by some people when they reached the station. The police have now launched a detailed investigation. Officers are recording multiple statements to establish the full chain of events.

Husband’s ‘Unwanted’ Remark

In her statement, Khushboo repeated that her husband kept telling her she was unwanted. She said he openly admitted that he did not want the marriage and blamed his parents for forcing him into it.

Her family has demanded strict action against him and accused him of cruelty and harassment linked to dowry.

Another Dark Chapter in Dowry Violence

This incident comes soon after the Noida dowry death case that shocked the nation. Once again, the case highlights how young women continue to face violence over dowry demands despite strong laws in India.

Activists say Khushboo’s survival is a reminder of the urgent need to strengthen awareness and enforcement against domestic and dowry-related violence. Women’s rights groups have urged authorities to act quickly so that Khushboo gets justice and others feel safe to report abuse.
