The first “Rakhi” was tied to Lord Mahakal on the eve of Raksha Bandhan on Wednesday in the courtyard of the Baba Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, a Bhasma Aarti was performed, and devotees received “laddoos.” The first Rakhi is customarily tied to Lord Mahakal, a manifestation of Lord Shiva. Today at three in the morning, Lord Mahakal performed his “Panchamrit” Abhishek.
“After the ‘Panchamrit’ Abhishek, Baba Mahakal was greeted with Bhasma. Later, Rakhi was tied to him. On this occasion, laddoos were offered to devotees. Bhasma Aarti was also performed. Devotees gathered in large numbers in the courtyard of Baba Mahakaleshwar temple’, a devotee said while speaking to ANI.
Another devotee told ANI that women from abroad also visit the Mahakaleshwar temple.
“Women from abroad also visit the Baba Mahakaleshwar temple and offer Rakhis to Baba Mahakal”, the devotee said.
The festival of Raksha Bandhan honors the relationship between a brother and a sister. Across the nation, the festival is being observed with great fanfare. Schoolgirls in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir tied Rakhis to CRPF soldiers. BSF Jawans celebrated Raksha Bandhan with schoolchildren in the valley’s Samba district.
