Madhya Pradesh Boy Dies After Being Trapped in 39-Foot Borewell for 16 Hours

A 10-year-old boy, identified as Sumit, tragically died after being trapped in a 39-foot borewell for 16 hours in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district. The incident occurred on Saturday at 6 pm in the Janjali area of Raghogarh, prompting a large-scale rescue operation involving teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police.

Sumit fell into the borewell around 3:30 pm on Saturday, and rescue efforts began at 6 pm. Despite continuous efforts, he was only rescued at approximately 9:30 am the following morning. The teams dug a parallel pit up to 40 feet and provided oxygen support to the boy throughout the operation. A medical team was also on-site to monitor his condition.

Guna ASP Man Singh Thakur confirmed the rescue operation timeline, while Guna Collector Satyendra Singh added that the teams worked tirelessly to ensure the boy’s safety. Tragically, despite their efforts, Sumit succumbed to his injuries after being retrieved.

This incident follows several similar tragedies, including the ongoing rescue of a 3-year-old girl trapped in a 700-foot-deep borewell in Rajasthan and a recent 55-hour rescue operation for a five-year-old boy in Dausa, Rajasthan.
