Lucknow’s Aditya Srivastava, 26, topped the UPSC 2023 examination, marking his third attempt. His initial UPSC prelims endeavor fell short due to inadequate preparation. Previously ranked 236th in the UPSC, he secured a spot in the IPS and is currently undergoing training in Hyderabad.
Ajay Kumar Srivastava, Aditya’s father and a CAG employee, shared their joy upon receiving a call from Aditya in Hyderabad about his achievement. While confident in Aditya’s abilities, the family did not anticipate him becoming the UPSC topper, calling it a moment of immense pride.
Aditya, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, pursued a Dual Degree BTech/MTech Program before securing a job with a Bengaluru-based private company, offering an annual package of ₹40 lakh. After working for about a year and a half, he decided to pursue civil services, prompting his resignation and serious preparation for UPSC 2022, where he successfully qualified and joined the Indian Police Service.
Aditya’s aspiration had always been to become an IAS officer. Determined to achieve this goal, he committed to the UPSC 2023 exam as his final attempt, a decision supported by both his parents, despite its challenges.
Having completed his schooling at City Montessori School, Aliganj branch, and graduating from IIT Kanpur in 2014, Aditya’s achievement has brought pride to his alma mater. Jyoti Kashyap, the school’s principal, expressed delight in seeing a former student excel in the country’s toughest examination, the civil services exam.
