In the second phase of polls, Assam recorded a 77.35 per cent voter turnout across five parliamentary constituencies on April 26. The Election Commission reported that Nagaon saw the highest turnout at 80.56 per cent, followed by Darrang-Udalguri at 78.41 per cent, Silchar at 75.97 per cent, Karimganj at 75.63 per cent, and Diphu at 73.11 per cent.
The first phase of polls in Assam, held on April 19 across Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Kaziranga, and Sonitpur, saw a polling percentage of 78.25 per cent. The upcoming third phase, scheduled for May 7, will cover Guwahati, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Dhubri, with 47 candidates vying for seats and over 81 lakh voters expected to participate.
Across India, the second phase included voting in 88 Lok Sabha constituencies, including 20 in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, and others. The first phase, held on April 19, covered 102 constituencies across 21 states and UTs. In the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Assam, the BJP secured 7 and then 9 seats respectively, while the Congress and AIUDF won three seats each in both elections.
