Lok Sabha Elections 2024: West Bengal Records 16.64 pc Voter Turnout Till 9 am, Uttar Pradesh At 12.33 pc

West Bengal recorded a high voter turnout of 16.64 percent by 9 am, according to data from the Election Commission. Uttar Pradesh also saw a significant turnout at 12.33 percent.

Other states participating in the sixth phase of polling included Bihar with 9.66 percent, Haryana at 8.31 percent, Jammu and Kashmir at 8.89 percent, Jharkhand at 11.74 percent, the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi at 8.94 percent, and Odisha at 7.43 percent.

Within Delhi, voter turnout by 9 am was as follows: Chandni Chowk – 7.83 percent, East Delhi – 8.82 percent, New Delhi – 7.04 percent, North East Delhi – 10.15 percent, North West Delhi – 8.99 percent, South Delhi – 8.88 percent, and West Delhi – 9.72 percent.

For Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag-Rajouri seat, turnout was 8.89 percent, with individual constituencies reporting: Anantnag – 6.00 percent, Anantnag West – 6.79 percent, Budhal (ST) – 10.81 percent, DH Pora – 9.00 percent, Devsar – 8.11 percent, Dooru – 8.40 percent, Kokernag (ST) – 10.31 percent, Kulgam – 5.31 percent, Mendhar – 11.10 percent, Nowshera – 12.52 percent, Pahalgam – 10.98 percent, Poonch Haveli – 11.98 percent, Rajouri (ST) – 9.00 percent, Shangus-Anantnag East – 7.03 percent, Srigufawara-Bijbehara – 6.04 percent, Surankot (ST) – 7.30 percent, Thanna Mandi (ST) – 11.32 percent, and Zainapora – 8.35 percent.

The sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections is underway across 58 parliamentary constituencies in six states and two Union Territories (UTs), amidst tight security and arrangements. This phase includes eight seats in Bihar, all 10 seats in Haryana, one seat in Jammu and Kashmir, four in Jharkhand, all seven seats in Delhi, six in Odisha, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, and eight in West Bengal, with a total of 889 candidates in the fray.

Simultaneously, elections for 42 assembly constituencies in Odisha are also taking place. All parliamentary seats in Delhi and Haryana are up for election in this phase. Key constituencies in this phase include New Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, Chandni Chowk in the national capital, Sultanpur and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, Anantnag-Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir, Tamluk and Medinipur in West Bengal, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Gurgaon, Rohtak in Haryana, and Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Sambalpur in Odisha.

The stakes are high for the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and other constituents of the INDIA bloc in this phase. Polling has already been completed in 428 parliamentary constituencies across 25 states and UTs in the first five phases of the general elections. Over 11.13 crore voters, including 5.84 crore males, 5.29 crore females, and 5,120 third-gender electors, are eligible to vote in this sixth phase. Approximately 11.4 lakh polling officials are involved in conducting this phase of the election.

The Lok Sabha elections will conclude on June 1 with the seventh phase of polling, where voters from 57 constituencies will cast their ballots. The results will be announced on June 4.
