Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 7: PM Modi Among Candidates As 57 Constituencies Go to Polls

The monumental Lok Sabha elections will wrap up with the seventh and final phase of polling on June 1, tomorrow. In this concluding round, 57 parliamentary constituencies across seven states and the Union territory of Chandigarh will vote. Among the candidates whose future will be decided is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is running for re-election from the Varanasi seat in Uttar Pradesh. Modi is the incumbent two-term Lok Sabha member from this constituency and is vying for a third consecutive term as Prime Minister. The election results will be announced on June 4.

1. “Of the 57 seats on which voting will be held, 13 are reserved for candidates from Scheduled Castes and three for those from Scheduled Tribes,” according to the Election Commission.

2. Concurrently, polling will also take place for Odisha’s 42 assembly constituencies, which include 27 General, 9 SC, and 6 ST seats.

3. Over 10.06 crore voters are set to cast their ballots at 1.09 lakh polling stations, which will be managed by 10.9 lakh officials.

4. The electorate comprises 5.42 crore males, 4.82 crore females, and 3,574 third-gender voters.

5. The Election Commission has arranged for 13 special trains and eight helicopter sorties to transport polling and security personnel.

6. To ensure the smooth conduct of voting, 172 observers have been appointed, including 76 expenditure observers, 64 general observers, and 32 police observers.

7. Continuous surveillance will be maintained by 2,707 flying squads, 2,799 static surveillance teams, 1,080 surveillance teams, and 560 video viewing teams.

8. A stringent watch is being kept to prevent the illegal movement of liquor, drugs, cash, and freebies through 201 international border check posts and 906 inter-state border check posts.
