Author, philanthropist, and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty voted on Friday in Bengaluru, Karnataka, at the BES polling place as part of the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Murty encouraged the populace to use their right to vote once she had participated in the democratic process.
“I want to tell everyone- don’t sit at home, come out and vote, it’s your right, choose your leader. I always feel that urban people vote less as compared to those in rural areas. I have seen more people of my age voting, so I request youngsters to come out and vote,” Murty said after casting vote on Bengaluru.
Renowned writer Sudha Murty, who wrote in both Kannada and English, stepped down as the Infosys Foundation’s chair on December 31, 2021. In 2023, she received the Padma Bhushan in recognition of her services to the social work profession. She received the Padma Shri in 2006. Murty is the mother-in-law of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and is married to NR Narayana Murty, a co-founder of Infosys. On March 8, President Droupadi Murmu proposed philanthropist and writer Sudha Murty to the Rajya Sabha.
Following her nomination by President Droupadi Murmu for the Rajya Sabha, author and philanthropist Sudha Murty expressed her happiness at being given a larger platform to work for the underprivileged, emphasising that her work and nomination were unrelated to politics.
Meanwhile, Narayana Murthy used his right to vote today at the Bengaluru BES polling place.
