LG Criticizes Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘Temporary Chief Minister’ Remark, Atishi Responds

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has criticized AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for referring to Atishi as a “temporary Chief Minister,” accusing him of making disparaging remarks that undermine democratic values. In response, Atishi hit back, accusing Saxena of engaging in “dirty politics” and urging him to focus on improving Delhi.

Saxena expressed his disappointment over Kejriwal’s comments, describing them as a personal insult to Atishi and a slight to both the office of the Chief Minister and his own role as a representative of the President. In a letter to Atishi, Saxena condemned Kejriwal’s words, saying they reflected poorly on the integrity of the Delhi government and undermined its democratic practices. He also criticized Kejriwal for making baseless claims about non-existent government schemes, which he argued misled the public and eroded trust in the administration.

Saxena also mentioned Kejriwal’s previous statement regarding Atishi’s potential arrest over a fake case related to the transport department, which was later denied. He expressed regret over the negative portrayal of Atishi, emphasizing that it could harm her credibility and her leadership role as Chief Minister. In contrast, Saxena praised Atishi for her effective leadership, noting that she managed several portfolios and worked diligently for the government, unlike Kejriwal, who did not hold any department during his tenure. Earlier, Saxena had complimented Atishi, calling her “a thousand times better” than Kejriwal.

Atishi responded to Saxena’s letter, asserting that she was following the path set by Kejriwal, who had worked for the betterment of Delhi for nearly a decade. She also criticized Saxena for obstructing the Mahila Samman Yojana, a scheme offering Rs 1,000 per month to women in Delhi, and promised an increase to Rs 2,100 if AAP won the upcoming assembly elections. Atishi, expressing her personal hurt as a woman, accused Saxena of hindering this initiative.

Atishi became the Chief Minister of Delhi on September 21, following Kejriwal’s resignation after being released from prison in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. During Kejriwal’s incarceration, Atishi became the public face of AAP, representing the party’s positions in media briefings.
