Congressmembers and PM Modi and other leaders pay tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on his 81st birth anniversary, remembering his vision for modern India and IT revolution.

On the occasion of Rajiv Gandhi’s 81st birth anniversary, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, with his daughter-in-law, other senior party leaders and Priyanka Gandhi met at Vir Bhumi, New Delhi, to pay floral homage to the deceased former Prime Minister. The Indian National Congress also marked the day in its publicized social media, recalling Gandhi as the architect of modern India and reaffirming its commitment to his ideals on Sadbhavana Diwas.

A Legacy of Transformation

Born on the 20th of August in 1944, Rajiv Gandhi became the youngest Prime Minister of India in 1984, assuming office after the assassination of his mother, Indira Gandhi. His very brief tenure as prime minister has left behind a lasting impression on India’s developmental trajectory. Well remembered as the youngest prime minister in the history of the country, he raised his voice for various causes like modernization, technology inclusion and education reforms-all pushing India towards the role of a knowledge hub in global terms.

His policies on computerization, telecommunications and IT education formed the bedrock of India’s future creation as a powerhouse of information technology. Under the encouragement of his government, the establishment of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) in 1988 became a turning point of events in the Indian IT revolution.

Salutations Across Political Lines

The occasion was not witnessed by just the Congress party alone. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the late leader. by his tribute of social media with those words, “On his birth anniversary today, my tributes to former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji,” acknowledging his input into the nation.”

Kharge, in his own message, spoke of Gandhi ‘s vision about and for inclusivity and unity, underscoring his contribution to shaping a modern India. “Today, as we observe Sadbhavana Diwas, we remember Rajiv Gandhi, an extraordinary leader who inspired hope in millions and thrust India into the 21st century,” he posted. 

Remembering a Life Cut Short

Rajiv Gandhi’s political journey tragically came to an end on May 21, 1991, when he was assassinated in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, during an election rally by an LTTE suicide bomber. But the dream of a technologically advanced, modern India continues to drive the national policy, inspiring leaders for generations.

Today, as the nation commemorates Rajiv Gandhi by celebrating his birthday, his legacy still serves to remind people of a man bold enough to see the future and initiate action towards making India a global superpower in the digital age.
