New Delhi: Independent Ladakh MP Mohammad Hanifa Jan met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss several issues related to Ladakh.
Speaking to Daily Guardian, Jan said, “I met the Finance Minister and discussed several issues related to Ladakh.”
The meeting between the Ladakh parliamentarian and the Union Finance Minister took place on Wednesday afternoon.
Jan mentioned that he raised the issue of Sankoo Degree College and the Engineering College in Kargil, as well as a Medical College in the region with Sitharaman.
He also noted that land for the Engineering and Medical Colleges has been identified and urged the Minister to expedite the process.
Jan further apprised Sitharaman about the need to shift the budget financial year for Ladakh to November and December instead of September.
He explained that the working season starts very late due to the cold weather, which results in lower expenditures shown in September. This discrepancy causes confusion in the ministry and the allocated funds gets cut, affecting developmental works. Thus, he chose to raise the issue with the Finance Minister.
Jan said that during the meeting, the finance minister listened to him very briefly and assured him of all help.
The Ladakh MP thanked the finance minister for her listening to him and assuring all help for Ladakh.
