New Delhi/Jaipur: Rajasthan Police on Thursday detained a man accused of uploading a video threatening to shoot Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other MPs from the party from Kota.

According to police, Raj Singh, who in the video claimed to be the spokesperson of the Karni Sena’s Kota unit, stated that he was angered by the Congress Rae Barel MPs’ behaviour towards Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota MP Om Birla in Parliament.

In the video, Singh is heard saying that Karni Sena workers were upset over the “several abuses hurled at Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla by 25 Congress MPs during the first part of the recently concluded Parliament session”.

He even claimed in the video that he had “reasons to believe that all this was done on the orders of Rahul Gandhi”. He is then heard issuing a threat saying that if Rahul Gandhi and the MPs do not “apologise to Om Birla”, then they would be shot in their homes.

He further said that if the 25 MPs were not arrested within 24 hours, “we will shoot them all one by one”.

According to police, he was arrested from Kota following the complant from the city Congress unit.

Meanwhile, Karni Sena and BJP clarified that Singh was not associated with them.

Earlier in the day, Congress fumed at the BJP-led government at the Centre after Singh threatened to shoot Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking to the media in Delhi over the death threat to Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP KC Venugopal said “See the atmosphere which is created by the BJP ecosystem and the Sangh parivar ecosystem. They are not even allowing Rahul Gandhi to speak in Parliament. They are not honouring the Leader of the Opposition…

“The Sangha Pariwar system is saying that they will go and kill Rahul Gandhi along with 25 MPs. No FIRs have been registered. This is a clear case of anarchy. We know how to protect our Leader of Opposition, we are not bothered about all these things. Rahul Gandhi also knows how to protect himself; he is not bothered about his life,” Venugopal, who is also the General Secretary Organisation of the party.

Congress media and publicity department chairman Pawan Khera also slammed the government and alleged that the “RSS-BJP ecosystem is a ‘Godse factory’.”

“The RSS-BJP ecosystem is a “Godse factory. The threat issued by the so called Karni Sena against Rahul Gandhi and the “25 Members of Parliament” is not an isolated outburst. It is the part of a calculated and devious plan,” Khera said in a post on X.

The Congress CWC member said that first, Kiren Rijiju publicly lied and misled the nation that Congress MPs abused Om Birla in the Lok Sabha – a claim contradicted by available video footage, which shows no such abuse.

“In fact, the Speaker is seen smiling during the exchange,” he said.

“Then, BJP MPs across platforms began echoing a strikingly similar line: that Rahul Gandhi poses ‘the biggest threat to India’s national security’. This is a deliberate campaign to demonise the opposition, and legitimise violence against political rivals – especially Rahul Ji.
“This is how radicalisation works: they manufacture a lie, amplify it through repetition, sanctify it with political authority, and circulate it until their followers are incited to hatred and violence. This is how Godse was created then. This is how another Godse is being instigated today.,” Khera added.
