Kolkata: Ahead of Cyclone Dana’s impending landfall, the Alipore Zoo has implemented precautionary measures to ensure the safety of its animals. A dedicated team of 15 skilled individuals has been assembled, prepared to swiftly address any tree-felling incidents that may occur due to the cyclone’s impact.

Zoo director Subhankar Sengupta assured that the animals have been securely placed in their respective shelters. “For animals such as deer, which stay in open spaces, the shelter doors have been left open to allow them the flexibility to seek refuge as needed,” he said. In preparation for a potential water shortage after the cyclone, all overhead water tanks have been filled to capacity.
Sengupta also mentioned that the zoo would remain open to visitors on Friday. “Our security personnel, animal attendants, garden attendants, and vets are engaged in monitoring and stand ready to tackle any emergency that may arise,” he added.
