A 27-year-old Mohammad Shahbaz from Kolkata was arrested for allegedly peddling LSD laced children’s tattoo stickers from the dark web using cryptocurrency. He was nabbed on Wednesday in Sector 43, Gurugram. The police officers recovered 2.7 grams of LSD stamped on stickers resembling children’s tattoos, intended for sale at elite parties.
Unmasked Drug Trade by Shahbaz
Shahbaz, who was living in New Town, Kolkata, was residing in a rented place in Saket, Delhi. He was apprehended with the LSD-laced stickers following a tip-off by men of the Anti-Narcotics Cell under the supervision of a gazetted officer. According to authorities, the stickers resembled ordinary tattoos for children, making them difficult to detect even with drug scanners.
“These drug-laced stickers are nearly indistinguishable from regular children’s tattoos, making their identification extremely challenging,” explained Sub-Inspector Karamjit, the officer who led the operation.
LSD Born from Cryptocurrency
After interrogation, Shahbaz agreed to have procured the high-intensity hallucinogenic drug from an international dark web portal called Bioness. For payment, he used only cryptocurrency in order to prevent detection. It is suspected that he wanted to distribute the drugs in Gurugram amongst affluent partygoers.
Against him, an FIR was filed under Section 22(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are also launching a probe to trace his potential connections abroad and find out about other persons of that network. All this happened at the Sushant Lok police station.LSD on the Rise in India
A senior investigating officer revealed, “LSD is gaining immense popularity among the youth of India, particularly in underground rave parties. The substance has become an instant hit in the US, Russia, and Europe but, riding that wave, even India now seems to be catching the trend.”
