In a shocking incident from Kolkata, West Bengal, a couple was arrested by the police for allegedly selling their 23-day-old granddaughter for Rs 30,000. The arrest came after the infant’s mother complained to Anandpur Police Station on Wednesday, reporting her newborn daughter as missing.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the grandparents had sold the baby to two child traffickers for a meagre sum of Rs 30,000. The child traffickers, in turn, sold the newborn to a childless woman in Narendrapur for a significantly higher amount in lakhs.
The police successfully traced the couple, who had fled to Bihar after the illicit transaction, and arrested them in Gaya, Bihar. The 23-day-old girl was rescued from Narendrapur in South 24 Parganas district.
Details emerging from the investigation reveal that the grandparents played a central role in the nefarious act, contributing to the shocking trafficking of their flesh and blood. The arrested couple now faces legal consequences for their alleged involvement in the sale of the infant.
The incident sheds light on the dark underbelly of child trafficking and exploitation, prompting authorities to take swift action against those responsible. The police have not only apprehended the grandparents but have also taken child traffickers and the ultimate buyer into custody, ensuring that all those involved in this reprehensible act face legal repercussions.
