The “Festival Of Ideas” conclave, an initiative by the ITV Network, is currently underway in the nation’s capital. Notable personalities from various sectors of the country are participating in the event to share their insights and answer queries from the public.
During the conclave, former IPS officer and ex-Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Dr. Kiran Bedi, addressed the challenge of thinking out of the box. She said, “I always focus on the ‘why’ behind my work. I love solving problems and never worry about who might like or dislike me for it. If you understand the reason behind your work and remain persistent in finding a solution, you will surely succeed. Change may not be popular, but you don’t need permission for it.”
On being asked what advice she would give to children aspiring to be like her, Bedi responded, “First and foremost, you must be self-inspired, which boosts your self-confidence. Ever since I was in school, I sought inspiration from within. I always stayed ahead by learning in advance. Whenever I performed my official duties, my superiors never had to guide me. If you inspire yourself, understand your responsibilities, and have a noble purpose, it becomes a habit.”
She emphasised that during her duty, she would not ponder over paper reports. “If there’s an issue, I first listen, then try to resolve it on the spot, and later draft a report about it. This approach often resolves half of the problems by the time I’m on the field,” she added.
Addressing women, Bedi remarked, “Stay true to yourself and don’t change for anyone. Both men and women have their unique strengths. A woman’s greatest strength is her ability to collaborate. If you have skills, it enhances your self-confidence. Share your achievements with others, for the more you give, the more you receive.”
The Festival Of Ideas continues to be a platform for fostering dialogue and disseminating knowledge from some of the country’s most influential figures.
