A major high-speed corridor set to change travel in the National Capital Region is close to opening. The NH-148A project, linking the DND Flyway to Sohna and the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, is expected to be ready in about four months. The new highway will serve as an alternative to the crowded NH-2 and NH-48, greatly reducing traffic for millions of commuters.
What is the Current Status of the NH-148A Project?
Construction on the long-planned NH-148A is in its final and most complex phase. Officials have confirmed that one of the key ramps on the Delhi side, descending from the DND Flyway toward Ashram, is nearly ready. However, what is the last major hurdle? The construction of an arch bridge over the Agra Canal near Kalindi Kunj remains one of the final structures to be completed. Once this bridge and the opposite ramp at Sarai Kale Khan are completed, the key Delhi–Faridabad stretch of the highway can be marked as finished, clearing the way for the entire corridor to open.
How Will This New Highway Benefit Commuters?
The primary goal of the 91-kilometer NH-148A is to decongest Delhi’s traffic, especially from its northern and eastern parts. But what does this mean for a daily traveler? This corridor will serve as a fast, access-controlled alternative to today’s jam-packed highways. It will improve NCR connectivity and strengthen links to important highways leading to Jaipur, Mumbai, and Kolkata. With a new parallel route, it should pull heavy traffic off NH-2 and NH-48, reducing crowding and shortening travel times.
What Are the Key Features of This Infrastructure Project?
Built at an estimated cost of ₹7,084 crore, the NH-148A is a substantial piece of infrastructure. The project is a six-lane, access-controlled highway with three-lane service roads on either side. To move through the crowded urban areas, the corridor includes 12 km of elevated roads, 10 flyovers, and several underpasses and bridges. The project was built in phases, with Package-II and Package-III already done. The remaining work on the Agra Canal bridge is the last task in Package-I, bringing the whole project close to completion.

How Will It Transform the Region Beyond Just Roads?
Urban planners believe the influence of NH-148A will extend far beyond moving traffic. How so? The better connectivity is expected to boost growth in areas along the Delhi–Haryana border such as Kalindi Kunj, Badarpur, and Ballabgarh, making them more appealing for new housing and commercial projects. A 32-kilometre spur will also link the highway directly to the Noida International Airport in Jewar, helping manage the rise in airport traffic once it becomes operational in the coming weeks.
