A tragic incident occurred during an Onam event at the Kerala Legislative Assembly on Monday, when a staff member collapsed on stage while dancing during the celebration.
The deceased individual is identified as Junesh Abdullah (45), an assistant librarian at the assembly and a native of Wayanad. Abdullah previously worked as the personal assistant to ex-MLA PV Anwar. He was known for his active participation in cultural events and games during Onam festivities.
The witnesses stated that Abdullah suddenly fell on the floor while dancing, after which he was immediately rushed to the general hospital. But he was declared dead on arrival.

This is not the first time such an incident has taken place. On August 19, 2024, a woman named Jeeva from Kancheepuram died after collapsing on stage during a wedding reception in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu.
53-year-old Rajeshkannan collapsed on stage at a school book fair in Tamil Nadu in February 2025. He also died before reaching the hospital, despite the best efforts.
On July 27, 2004, a Hyderabadi man named Gundla Rakesh (25) suffered a fatal heart attack while playing badminton at Nagole Stadium.
