Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered himself at Tihar jail on Sunday, following the conclusion of his 21-day interim bail granted by the Supreme Court for campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections.
On May 10, the Supreme Court provided Arvind Kejriwal with temporary bail in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam, with a directive for him to surrender by June 2.
“I am Going back to jail not because I was involved in corruption, but because I raised voice against dictatorship,” said Kejriwal ahead of surrendering.
Kejriwal paid respects at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at the Raj Ghat and later visited the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Manoj Tiwari criticized Kejriwal, labeling him as the villain of Delhi. “There is a water crisis in the city. The (water) department comes under him but he never tried to provide clean water to the people of Delhi. Today, Arvind Kejriwal visited Raj Ghat. If he had followed Mahatma Gandhi, then he wouldn’t have to go to jail,” Tiwari told PTI.
