Karnataka: Man Kills Wife With Sickle After Wedding, Ends Own Life

In a tragic incident in Karnataka’s Kolar district, a 27-year-old cloth retailer reportedly killed his 18-year-old newlywed wife with a sickle following a heated argument at a relative’s house. The man, identified as Naveen, attempted to take his own life after the attack. He was rushed to a hospital in Bengaluru, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on August 8.

Naveen and Likhita had recently tied the knot in a love-cum-arranged marriage in Chambarasabahalli, Kolar Gold Fields, with both families present, as reported by local media. After the wedding ceremony, Naveen took Likhita and her family to his uncle’s house for refreshments. According to police, the couple soon entered a room and locked the door behind them.

Relatives heard loud shouting from the room and, when they looked through a window, they saw Naveen attacking Likhita with a sickle. They forced the door open, only to find Likhita lying in a pool of blood and Naveen gravely injured.

Both were initially taken to RL Jalappa Hospital for treatment, but due to complications, Naveen was transferred to a hospital in Bengaluru, where he later died. The Andersonpet Police have registered a case of murder and suicide against Naveen, launching an investigation into the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
