Karnataka HC orders status report on pending Criminal cases against legislators

The Karnataka High Court directed the Registrar of the Court to file a report on the status of pending criminal cases against current and former legislators within three weeks. A division bench of Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale and Justice Krishna S Dixit gave the direction after hearing the petition on its own. After the Supreme Court’s direction on all High Courts to monitor and supervise the pending criminal cases against MPs and MLAs, the petition was initiated.

Senior advocate Aditya Sondhi, the amicus curiae appointed by the court for this petition, submitted that information from a huge chunk of cases has to be compiled from the special courts and sought time. Further, upon recording the submission, the Registrar was directed to submit the information by the next date of
hearing.
