Journalist Assault Case: Delhi Court Dismisses Bail Application Of AAP Media Coordinator

The anticipatory bail application of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) media coordinator Vikas Kumar Yogi was dismissed by Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on Friday as it was deemed not maintainable. The court’s decision was based on the observation that all the offences mentioned in the FIR are bailable, making anticipatory bail unnecessary. The case involves allegations of assaulting a female journalist and a video journalist at the AAP office at Rouse Avenue.

Additional Sessions Judge Ram Lal Meena dismissed the anticipatory bail, stating that it was not maintainable. The court considered the reply of the Delhi Police and the submissions of the Public Prosecutor, noting that the offences in the FIR are currently bailable.

Vikas Kumar Yogi had filed the plea through Advocate Rajat Bhardwaj, arguing that there was a genuine apprehension of arrest in the case. However, the police stated that all offences were bailable, making the application not maintainable. The court also directed that the statement of the complainant female journalist be recorded before the court.

The reply from the Delhi Police mentioned that custodial interrogation was required to identify other accused persons. The court questioned the need for custodial interrogation if the offence was bailable. The Additional Public Prosecutor clarified that it was a typographical error.

The court, after considering all submissions, concluded that all offences were bailable at the moment, therefore the bail application was not maintainable and dismissed it as such.

The FIR registered by Delhi Police against Vikas Yogi and others details an incident in which a young woman reporter from Times Now News Channel and a video journalist were allegedly assaulted, and their camera was broken. It also mentions the use of “derogatory language” and “threats” made at the two employees of Times Now, who were allegedly surrounded by 8-10 people and dragged out of the building.
