Voter Turnout And Campus Energy: What Shaped This Year's Polls?

Of the 9,043 students eligible to vote, around 67 % of them did. This compares with 70 % and 73 % in previous years and represents the lowest level of participation since the pandemic-era.

Voting was held in two phases-from 9 am to 1 pm and from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm-and campuses brimmed with fervor: drum beats, slogans, and snaking queues spoke to the charged atmosphere.

In the 2024 JNUSU elections, too, the Left alliance fared very well, sweeping most of the central panel posts, including that of president and vice-president.

Voter turnout had been marginally higher at close to 70 %, with the ABVP and NSUI succeeding in securing some key positions in school councils and smaller roles.

Analysts observed that the 2024 results reflected a campus trend of growing student support for left-leaning policies and set up a potentially competitive contest in 2025.

With the first-round leads in favour of the Left alliance, students and campus watchers now await the final official results, expected on November 6. Counting goes on overnight. The outcome will shape the student leadership and agenda at JNU for the year ahead.
