The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) accused on Thursday that Left-affiliated student organizations have attacked a Durga idol-immersion procession in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), whereas Left groups accused the ABVP of religious political propaganda in a Ravan Dahan scheme.
No Instant Response by JNU Administration
There was no instant reaction available from the administration of JNU regarding this issue. In a statement, the ABVP stated that Left groups, such as the AISA, SFI, and DSF, “violently attacked” the immersion procession near Sabarmati T-Point at around 7 pm, alleging that some male and female students were injured in stone-pelting and were eve-teased.

Direct Attack on Tradition
ABVP JNU president Mayank Panchal added, “This is not only an attack on a religious function but also a direct attack on the festive tradition of the university and the religious sentiments of the students. The ABVP will not accept such cultural aggression under any circumstances.” ABVP JNU minister Praveen Piyush stated that “stone-pelting and even attacking girls during a sacred ritual like Durga Visarjan is condemnable and shameful” and demanded strong action from the administration.

JNUSU joint secretary Vaibhav Meena also opposed the act, calling it “a direct assault on the cultural harmony and brotherhood of the university.”
Clashes Break Out at JNU Following Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam is shown allegedly as Ravan. In a release, AISA claimed the ABVP was holding a Ravan Dahan, where former JNU students Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam both under trial in the anti-CAA protest case and Delhi riots conspiracy case were being shown as Ravan.
AISA Dismissed the Allegations
The Left-sponsored All India Students’ Association (AISA), however, dismissed the allegations and instead leveled the accusation against the ABVP of “using religion for political propaganda.” “This is a clear and shameless exhibition of Islamophobia, using religious sentiments to reap political dividends,” the AISA stated.
It questioned the ABVP as to why it had not picked names like Nathuram Godse, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, or leaders who were alleged to have made inflammatory speeches during the 2020 Delhi riots.
“JNU spurns the politics of hate and Islamophobia,” the AISA release stated, urging students to “stand up against the polarizing politics of RSS-ABVP.” Both sides exchanged accusations of what they called efforts to “destabilize the campus” and “distort its cultural environment.”
