J&K: Avalanche warning issued for Ganderbal district

On Thursday, J&K Disaster Management Authority issued an avalanche warning for the Ganderbal district during the next 24 hours.

The official statement reads “Avalanche with a low danger level is likely to occur above 2800 metres above sea level over the Ganderbal district in the next 24 hours.”  “People living in these areas are advised to take precautions and avoid venturing into the avalanche-prone areas till further orders,” JKDMA said.

Two foreigners were killed in an avalanche in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, earlier this year. As many as 19 foreign tourists and two local guides were rescued.

According to Baramulla police, three teams of 21 tourists and two local guides went skiing in Affarwat Gulmarg.The skiing teams were caught in Gulmarg’s Hapatkhud Kangdori, where they went skiing.
