Jhunjhunu: Tragedy struck the family of Satyendra Singh Sankhla, a junior sailor from Dangar village in Surajgarh tehsil of Jhunjhunu district, as he was martyred in a fire onboard INS Brahmaputra. The incident occurred on July 21 while the Multirole Frigate was undergoing maintenance at the Navy Dockyard in Mumbai. The fire, which raged for 16 hours, caused the ship to tilt, prompting the evacuation of around 300 personnel, including officers.
Despite the efforts, Satyendra went missing during the accident. After an intensive search operation, divers from the Navy recovered his body after approximately 60 hours on Wednesday, July 24, at 3 am. The news of his demise was conveyed to the family by Navy officials, leaving them in mourning.
Satyendra Singh Sankhla, aged 23 and son of Purna Singh Sankhla, had joined the Navy in 2018. The final rites of Navy Jawan Satyendra Singh Sankhla will be conducted with full military honours in his native village of Dangar on Thursday. A Tiranga Yatra will precede the cremation, honouring his sacrifice and service to the nation.
