Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted coordinated operations across multiple districts to target banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) networks and online radicalisation activities. The raids aimed to curb extremist influence and prevent terror plots in the region.
In Shopian, police carried out early-morning raids on locations linked to JeI. Teams conducted thorough searches at multiple sites associated with the banned group, proscribed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The operation involved combing through suspected hideouts and seizing materials that could reveal the group’s ongoing activities. Police officers said the raids were part of a sustained effort to dismantle JeI networks in south Kashmir.
In Jammu, authorities arrested a 19-year-old youth from Bathindi, originally from Reasi district, in connection with FIR No. 331/2025 under Section 113(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigations revealed that the accused had been radicalised online and was reportedly planning a terror attack. Police found digital communications with handlers in Pakistan and other foreign countries.
Officials seized mobile phones and other devices, which are undergoing forensic analysis. Authorities are conducting intensive questioning to map the full extent of the network.
In Handwara district, police carried out searches at the Jamia Islamia Institute in Waripora. The operation was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, the local Lumberdar, and assisted by female officers.
Police seized multiple electronic devices, including laptops, desktops, CPUs, and mobile phones. These devices are being examined for evidence of radicalisation and terror planning.
A police official said the operations strictly adhered to legal protocols while combining physical raids with digital forensics.
Security experts note that the J&K raids reflect a growing hybrid terror threat, combining online radicalisation with on-ground extremist networks. Officials are increasingly using digital forensics alongside traditional policing to intercept potential attacks before they materialise.
Authorities are also calling on parents, teachers, and community leaders to remain vigilant about online radical content influencing youth. Experts warn that hybrid networks, often managed across borders, require constant monitoring to prevent cross-border terrorism and recruitment.
