Jaishankar to Visit Germany and Switzerland, Aiming to Strengthen Bilateral Ties and Engage with International Organizations

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to meet with German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and other key German government officials to review bilateral relations between India and Germany. This visit marks Jaishankar’s third official trip to Berlin as Foreign Minister.

Currently attending the India-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Jaishankar will travel to Germany on Tuesday for a two-day visit. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that India and Germany enjoy a strong Strategic Partnership, with Germany being one of India’s leading trading partners and one of the largest sources of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

After concluding his visit to Germany, Jaishankar will head to Geneva, Switzerland, from September 12 to 13. During his stay, he will meet the Swiss Foreign Minister to further strengthen the close partnership between the two countries and explore opportunities for enhancing bilateral relations.

Geneva, home to several key international organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), will also be a significant focus of Jaishankar’s visit. He is expected to meet with heads and representatives of these organizations, with whom India is actively engaged.

As the most populous country and one of the top five global economies, India has been pursuing permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). While nations like Russia, France, the US, and the UK support India’s bid, China remains a key obstacle.
