New Delhi: External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar extended his congratulations to Beate Meinl-Reisinger on her appointment as Austria’s new Foreign Minister. He emphasized strengthening the long-standing partnership between India and Austria.
In a post on X, Jaishankar wrote, “Congratulations to @BMeinl on her appointment as the Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria. We will work together to further advance our long-standing partnership.”
India-Austria Diplomatic Ties
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India and Austria established diplomatic relations in 1949. Over the years, the partnership has expanded across trade, technology, and cultural exchanges.
Notably, in July 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid an official visit to Austria at the invitation of Chancellor Karl Nehammer. During his visit, PM Modi met Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and held bilateral talks with Chancellor Nehammer. This visit was significant as it marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria in 41 years.
Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
India and Austria continue to collaborate in various sectors, including health and technology. Ayurveda and Yoga have gained immense popularity in Austria, with many institutions offering traditional Indian wellness practices.
Another major development during PM Modi’s visit was the Migration and Mobility Agreement, which aims to facilitate the movement of skilled professionals while addressing irregular migration. This agreement supports high-tech collaboration and strengthens workforce mobility between the two countries.
The growing partnership between India and Austria reflects a commitment to deeper diplomatic, economic, and cultural cooperation.
