Jaishankar Confident India Will Work with Next U.S. President

On Tuesday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed confidence that India will be able to work with the next U.S. President, regardless of who it may be. Speaking about the upcoming U.S. presidential elections at the launch of Indiaspora’s Impact report in the national capital, Jaishankar stated that India is prepared to collaborate with any U.S. administration.

“Typically, we refrain from commenting on other nations’ elections, just as we expect them not to comment on ours. However, the American system will produce its verdict, and I say this not merely as a formality—over the past 20-plus years, we’ve consistently found ways to work effectively with the President of the United States, whoever they may be,” Jaishankar remarked.

Addressing the current global situation, Jaishankar noted that the world is experiencing an exceptionally challenging period, citing the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Israel. He expressed concern about the potential difficulties in the coming years, mentioning the turmoil in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and East Asia, as well as the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to impact many countries.

Jaishankar also highlighted the economic struggles faced by numerous nations, pointing out challenges in trade, foreign exchange shortages, and various disruptions. Additionally, he underscored the global consequences of climate events, which are causing widespread disruptions and rendering entire regions dysfunctional.
