Jaipur Hit By 173mm Rainfall: Severe Waterlogging And Traffic Jams Reported

Heavy rainfall across various cities in Rajasthan has severely disrupted normal life, leading to extensive waterlogging and traffic jams in Jaipur, Churu, and Kota, according to officials.

Four Missing in Jaipur Flooding Incident

In Jaipur’s Vishwakarma area, at least four people, including a minor boy, are missing after the basement of a residential apartment was inundated. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) managed to rescue nine individuals, but the search for the remaining four continues.

“Around 13 people were trapped in the basement, which was filled with about 12 feet of water. An SDRF team promptly arrived and rescued nine people, while others remain missing,” stated Chomu town’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ashok Chauhan.

In another incident in the Bagru area, the SDRF is searching for a minor boy who was swept away by an overflowing drain, an official reported.

Jaipur Airport and Key Roads Flooded

The entrance to Jaipur airport was waterlogged, and major roads such as Sikar and Ajmer Road experienced significant traffic disruptions. A few schools in Jaipur were also closed due to the heavy rains.

Bus Accident in Kota

In Kota, a bus carrying about 30 people overturned in a gorge. “The incident occurred on NH-35 near Mukunda Tiger Hills when the driver attempted to navigate a narrow path to avoid traffic. The bus lost control, overturned, and fell into a gorge, injuring four passengers,” an official from Modak police station said.

Structural Damage in Churu

In Churu, a 100-year-old building collapsed early Thursday morning, and a portion of a highway in Jalebi Chowk caved in. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in these incidents.

More Rain Predicted

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in 11 districts, including Jaipur, Dausa, Nagaur, Kota, Bundi, Jhalawar, Bharatpur, Sikar, Tonk, and Churu. By 10 AM on Thursday, Jaipur recorded the highest rainfall at 173 mm, with the airport area receiving 133 mm of it.

As the rain continues to wreak havoc across Rajasthan, rescue operations and efforts to restore normalcy are ongoing.
