Mumbai passengers faced a frightening experience on Tuesday evening when a monorail train got stuck between Mysore Colony and Bhakti Park stations. The train, running on an elevated track, stopped due to a minor power supply issue around 6:15 PM.
Passengers said the train was overcrowded. One passenger explained, “I was on the train from 5.30 pm. The rescue operation started after 1 hour. There were at least 500 passengers in the train. This train arrived after a gap of 30 minutes, so the entire train was overloaded with passengers.”
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also confirmed that overcrowding led to the breakdown. He said the rescue operations were carried out promptly, and most passengers were safely rescued.
