Kris Gopalakrishnan, Infosys co-founder, and 16 others have been booked under the SC/ST Atrocities Act following a complaint filed by a former IISc faculty member

Infosys Co-Founder Kris Gopalakrishnan Booked Under SC/ST Atrocities Act

Bengaluru police filed a case under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act against Kris Gopalakrishnan, Infosys co-founder, former IISc Director Balaram, and 16 others on January 27, 2024. The case was registered at Sadashiva Nagar police station following directions from the 71st city civil and session court (CCH), as reported.

Complainant’s Allegations

The complaint was filed by Durgappa, a member of the Bovi tribal community. Durgappa claims that in 2014, he was falsely implicated in a honey trap case, which led to his dismissal from IISc. Additionally, he alleges that he faced caste-based abuse and threats after losing his job. His legal team raised these issues in the formal complaint.

Accused Individuals in the Case

In addition to Gopalakrishnan and Balaram, other individuals named in the case include Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrier, Sandya Vishwswaraih, Hari KVS, Dasappa, Hemalata Mhishi, Chattopadyaya K, Pradeep D Sawkar, and Manoharan. Neither the IISc faculty nor Kris Gopalakrishnan has publicly commented on the accusations.

Who is Kris Gopalakrishnan?

Kris Gopalakrishnan is a prominent Indian entrepreneur and co-founder of Infosys. He played a significant role in the company’s growth and served as its CEO and Managing Director from 2007 to 2011, later becoming Vice Chairman until 2014.

Apart from his work at Infosys, Gopalakrishnan held influential positions such as president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 2013-14. He also co-chaired a session at the 2014 World Economic Forum in Davos. In recognition of his contributions, the Indian government awarded him the Padma Bhushan in 2011, India’s third-highest civilian honor.

Gopalakrishnan holds master’s degrees in physics and computer science from IIT Madras. He is also a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineers (INAE) and an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) in India.
