IndiGo Flight Crisis: Board Hires Expert Panel to Assess Flight Cancellations

InterGlobe Aviation Limited, the parent company of IndiGo, has engaged Chief Aviation Advisors LLC, led by Captain John Illson, to carry out an independent review of the airline’s recent operational breakdown. The goal is to conduct a detailed root-cause analysis and identify areas for improvement.

Indigo Crisis Management Group Recommends External Review

The appointment follows the recommendation of the Crisis Management Group (CMG), a special committee established by the IndiGo Board. After evaluating the situation, the CMG advised commissioning an independent expert review to examine the causes and offer actionable insights.

Expert Review to Submit Comprehensive Report to Indigo Board

An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed that the review would begin immediately. “The independent expert reviewer will submit a comprehensive report to the Board,” the spokesperson added, ensuring accountability and transparency in the assessment process.

IndiGo Faces Disruptions Due to New Pilot Duty and FDLT New Rules

The airline, India’s largest by market share, has been grappling with widespread operational issues caused by planning failures linked to new pilot duty and rest norms effective November 1. These issues have led to thousands of flight cancellations nationwide, including over 200 at Delhi and Bengaluru airports on Thursday alone.

Civil Aviation Ministry Orders Flight Reductions

Amid mounting disruptions, the civil aviation ministry instructed IndiGo to reduce its winter schedule by 10 per cent from its normal 2,300 daily flights, aiming to stabilize operations and prevent further chaos.

IndiGo CEO Grilled by DGCA Inquiry Panel

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers appeared before a DGCA-constituted inquiry panel for several hours on Thursday to explain the root causes of the crisis. The regulator has requested his presence again on Friday for further clarifications.
