IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has made a significant announcement to eliminate the fuel charge on both its domestic and international routes, effective immediately from January 4, 2024. This decision by IndiGo comes as a response to the decreasing prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), providing relief to passengers who were previously burdened by the fuel charge introduced in October 2023.

“With recent reduction in ATF prices, IndiGo is withdrawing the charge,” IndiGo said in a statement.

Industry experts recognise this move as a strategic response to current market conditions, allowing the airline to attract more passengers and solidify its position as a preferred choice for budget-friendly air travel in India. The removal of the fuel charge by IndiGo demonstrates the airline’s ability to adapt to changing market dynamics while prioritising customer needs.

“As ATF prices are dynamic, we will continue to adjust our fares and components thereof, to respond to any change in prices or market conditions. IndiGo remains committed to its promise of providing of affordable, on-time, courteous, and hassle-free travel for our customers,” IndiGo said.

The removal of the fuel charge by IndiGo is expected to lead to a reduction of at least Rs 300 and up to Rs 1,000 in the overall ticket prices for passengers.
The specific amount of reduction will depend on the distance of the flight.

As one of the fastest-growing low-cost carriers globally, IndiGo operates an extensive fleet of over 330 aircraft, facilitating more than 2000 daily flights. The airline’s network covers 86 domestic destinations and 32 international destinations, ensuring seamless connectivity for its passengers.
