India’s S-400 air defence system destroyed at least five Pakistani air force jets during Operation Sindoor, Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh announced on Saturday. Speaking at the Air Marshal Katre Annual Lecture in Bengaluru, he praised India’s performance during the four-day military escalation with Pakistan.
Strikes at 300 km Range and Beyond
Air Chief Marshal Singh revealed that Pakistani fighter aircraft were taken down from a range of 300 kilometres. He further disclosed that the IAF also destroyed several parked F-16 fighter jets of the Pakistani air force stationed at Jacobabad air base.
S-400 Declared a “Game-Changer”
“Our air defence systems have done a wonderful job,” Singh said. He credited the recently acquired S-400 system for altering the dynamics of the conflict. “The range of that system has really kept their aircraft away from their weapons like those long-range glide bombs that they have; they have not been able to use any one of those because they have not been able to penetrate the system,” he added.

Keeping Enemy Weapons at Bay
According to Singh, the S-400’s capability to intercept threats before they could approach Indian territory prevented Pakistan from deploying any long-range glide bombs. This technological edge, he noted, played a decisive role in keeping India safe during the operation.
