The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to the states of Assam and Maharashtra in relation to a petition by YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, who is requesting to either dismiss or relocate the FIRs against him to Mumbai, as reported by PTI.

Chanchlani Approaches SC to Dismiss or Relocate FIR

Chanchlani filed a petition with the Supreme Court on Thursday, asking for the dismissal or relocation of an FIR lodged in Guwahati. The matter involves allegations of promoting obscenity in the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’.

The YouTuber is one of several individuals named in the FIR filed in Assam. Podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia is the primary accused in the matter due to his contentious remarks made during the show.

Details of Chanchlani’s Petition

As per PTI, Chanchlani requested the dismissal of the FIR lodged at the Cyber Police Station, Police Commissionerate, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam.

His petition stated: “Dismiss the FIR numbered 03 of 2025 lodged at Cyber PS Police Commissionerate, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam, as it was filed later. ”

Alternatively, Chanchlani asked for the FIR to be transferred to Mumbai Police Station Nodal Cyber since another FIR (numbered 05 of 2025) had already been filed there first.

Gauhati High Court Grants Provisional Bail

Earlier this week, the Gauhati High Court granted provisional bail to Chanchlani while considering his anticipatory bail application. The court instructed him to present himself before the investigating officer within ten days.

His legal counsel contended that their client did not make any controversial remarks during the show, stressing that the allegations in the FIR were primarily directed at the co-accused.

Case Background and Legal Allegations

The FIR was lodged by the Guwahati Police on February 10 following a complaint from an individual. The case has been registered under various legal statutes, including the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, the Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

In addition to Chanchlani and Allahbadia, the case also names comedians Samay Raina, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija as co-accused.

The Supreme Court will further consider Chanchlani’s petition regarding the dismissal or relocation of the FIRs.
