India’s civil aviation fleet to double, says Union Minister Scindia

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Friday that India’s civil aviation sector is beginning a growth phase, with the number of aircraft in domestic airlines projected to rise from the current 720 to 1,500. He emphasised that this sector is contributing significantly to India’s growing economic power and noted the substantial aircraft orders placed by various airlines, including Air India.
The minister made these comments in anticipation of the inauguration of the fourth runway and the Eastern Cross Taxiways (ECT) at Delhi airport. He revealed that he has urged the Delhi airport operator, DIAL, to have the fourth terminal ready by October.
G M Rao, the Group Chairman of GMR Group, who spoke at the inauguration of the new runway and ECT, expressed that these developments would increase operational efficiency and capacity.
The GMR Group is a major participant in the infrastructure sector and has significant involvement in India’s airport infrastructure.
