JAMMU, Jun 14: Tension briefly escalated along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district after the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked firing in the Balakot sector, officials said on Saturday.
According to sources, the firing was initiated by Pakistani troops, who targeted an Indian Army post with approximately 10 to 15 rounds of small-arms fire along the LoC.
The Indian Army responded swiftly and effectively, retaliating against the Pakistani posts from where the firing originated. The exchange of fire lasted for a brief period before the situation was brought under control.
Officials said the Indian Army is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining a high level of alertness along the forward areas to prevent any escalation.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage on the Indian side.
Security agencies are keeping a close watch on developments, while troops deployed along the LoC remain vigilant to safeguard the border and respond to any ceasefire violations.
Further details are awaited.
