Poonch, May 04: In a distressing development, an Indian Airforce convoy was ambushed by terrorists in the Surankote area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, leaving five soldiers injured, with one in critical condition, sources revealed.
Sources disclosed that the convoy, comprising two vehicles, encountered heavy terrorist gunfire, resulting in injuries to five personnel. The critically wounded airman has been rushed to the hospital along with the others for urgent medical attention. Reinforcements have swiftly been deployed to the area, with ongoing counter-terror operations underway.
This incident marks the first significant attack on the armed forces in the region this year, following a series of terror assaults on the army in the preceding year. Visual evidence following the attack depicted at least a dozen bullet perforations on the windscreen of the targeted vehicle.
According to sources within the security forces, “An Indian Air Force vehicles’ convoy was attacked by terrorists in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The local Rashtriya Rifles unit has initiated cordon and search operations in the vicinity. The vehicles have been secured within the air base in the general area near Shahsitar. Military personnel have sustained injuries.”
