The Indian Air Force has been relentlessly engaged in firefighting operations in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, extending critical assistance to civil authorities as massive forest fires continue to threaten the region. Since yesterday evening, IAF personnel have been carrying out continuous operations, battling not only the flames but also difficult terrain, poor visibility and challenging weather conditions through the night.

IAF helicopters equipped with Bambi Buckets have been conducting repeated water-dropping missions over the affected forest areas. Drawing water from Sukhna Lake, the helicopters have already completed over 15 shuttles, releasing more than 40,000 litres of water in an effort to contain the rapidly spreading fire.

The operation highlights the speed, coordination and preparedness with which the Air Force responds during natural emergencies. While the armed forces are primarily tasked with safeguarding the nation’s borders, such operations once again demonstrate their equally vital role in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. The demanding nature of aerial firefighting — especially during night operations in hilly terrain — requires exceptional precision, endurance and professionalism from the crews involved.

Officials said the efforts remain underway as teams continue to monitor the fire zones and support local authorities on the ground. The sustained operations through dark hours underscore the determination of the aircrew and support staff, who have remained focused on preventing further spread of the blaze and minimising damage to nearby areas.

The situation in Kasauli serves as a reminder of the increasing threat posed by forest fires during extreme weather conditions, and the importance of swift inter-agency coordination in responding to such crises. In this challenging moment, the Indian Air Force’s contribution stands out not as a display of force, but as a reflection of disciplined service, operational excellence and commitment to protecting lives and the environment whenever the nation calls.
