On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and various Union ministers honored the victims and survivors of the 1947 Partition. They paid tribute to the perseverance of countless individuals who confronted displacement, brutality, and bereavement amid one of the tragic periods in India’s history.
On his X account, PM Modi honoured the memory of those who endured the tragedy and praised their courage to rebuild lives despite immense loss.
He wrote, “India observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, remembering the upheaval and pain endured by countless people during that tragic chapter of our history. It is also a day to honour their grit…their ability to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh.”

The Prime Minister said many survivors went on to achieve remarkable milestones despite their hardships. “This day is also a reminder of our enduring responsibility to strengthen the bonds of harmony that hold our country together,” he added.

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day was first observed in 2021 by PM Modi on August 14 to commemorate the victims and their sufferings during the 1947 Partition.
Jaishankar Calls Partition a Strategic and Human Tragedy
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar also paid tribute to the survivors of the Partition. He wrote, “The Partition caused immense suffering and had far-reaching human and strategic consequences. On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, we recall the resilience of those who endured this terrible tragedy. There are many lessons to be learnt from this painful chapter.”
Amit Shah Blames Congress for Partition
Union Home Minister Amit Shah remembered the pain of those who suffered during the Partition and blamed the Congress for dividing the country.
He wrote, “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is a day to express condolences by remembering the pain of those who suffered due to the partition of the country and its tragedy.”

Shah said, “The partition led to violence, exploitation, and atrocities, and millions of people endured displacement. I offer my heartfelt tribute to all those people. The country will never forget this history and pain of the Partition. I offer my tribute to those who lost their lives in this horror of the Partition.”
Rajnath Singh Recalls Painful Chapter of 1947
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also honoured the victims of the Partition. He wrote, “On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, recalling that painful chapter of 1947, I pay tribute to all those brothers and sisters who had to endure the horrific consequences of hatred and violence following India’s Partition and witnessed the loss of life and property.”

Singh added, “Even today, every Indian feels empathy for those affected families. We are fully committed to further strengthening social harmony in the country.”
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal paid homage to those who lost their lives in 1947. He wrote, “On this day in the year 1947, people had to endure the pain of violence, displacement, and the loss of loved ones due to the Partition.”
He said the day will “continue to pay tribute to all those who sacrificed while making future generations aware of the unbearable suffering of the displaced.”
