India Will Get a Permanent Seat in The UNSC: What Jaishanker Said?

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s aspirations for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), expressing confidence that the country would achieve this goal more swiftly under a strong prime minister. Speaking at an interactive session in Cuttack, Odisha, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of having a leader whom the world cannot refuse.

Jaishankar highlighted the challenges India faces and the necessity of trusting a capable leader to navigate through them. He underscored that India’s inclusion as a permanent UNSC member is inevitable, given its growing global influence and support from international partners.

India’s quest for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council has gained momentum over the years, backed by strong advocacy and backing from various nations, including the United States. The UNSC is composed of 15 member states, including five permanent members with veto power and ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also pledged to pursue permanent UNSC membership for India in its election manifesto. The BJP’s manifesto, titled ‘Sankalp Patra’, vows to elevate India’s position in global decision-making by seeking permanent UNSC membership.

Earlier remarks by Jaishankar in Nagpur highlighted the growing global consensus in support of India’s permanent UNSC membership. He acknowledged that such achievements are not easily granted and require proactive efforts to seize opportunities.

India’s pursuit of a permanent seat at the UNSC reflects its ambition to play a more significant role in shaping global affairs and advocating for the interests of the developing world on the international stage.
