Himachal Pradesh Cloudburst Tragedy: 50 Feared Dead As Heavy Rain Continues Across India

Severe weather conditions in Himachal Pradesh have left around 50 people feared dead following cloudburst incidents, according to state minister Vikramaditya Singh. The minister stated that an official count would be confirmed once search and rescue operations conclude.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rain in the state until August 7, prompting Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to announce ₹50,000 in aid for families affected by flash floods.

Weather Alerts Across India

The IMD has issued a red alert for several regions, including Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, and Meghalaya, for August 3, 2024. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected over areas such as Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, Goa, and Meghalaya.

In Maharashtra, Satara district faces a red alert for August 3 and 4, with predictions of severe rainfall in Palghar and Pune districts on August 4. Very heavy rain is also expected in Vidarbha on August 3 and Marathwada on August 3 and 4.

The forecast includes heavy rain in Kerala, Mahe, and Karnataka over the next five days. Kerala is particularly affected, still recovering from the Wayanad landslide tragedy, which claimed over 300 lives.

Rainfall in the Last 24 Hours

In the past 24 hours, various regions have experienced heavy rain, including Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, Gujarat, and Madhya Maharashtra. Kerala, Punjab, and East Madhya Pradesh also reported significant rainfall, highlighting the widespread impact of the ongoing weather conditions across India.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging residents in affected areas to stay alert and follow safety guidelines.
