India is closely monitoring the growing military ties between Bangladesh and Pakistan, especially after the removal of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The increasing military collaborations between its neighbors are a concern, as they could affect India’s national security.

India’s Vigilance on Regional Developments

At a press briefing, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, confirmed India’s vigilance. He stated, “We keep an eye on all activities around the country and in the region, as well as all activities affecting national security, and the government will take appropriate steps.” This came after reports that a Pakistani delegation, led by Maj Gen Shahid Amir Afsar of the ISI, visited Bangladesh to meet with its service chiefs.

Proactive Approach to Security

Jaiswal emphasized that India is taking proactive steps to protect its security interests. He reassured that India is closely monitoring these developments in the region.

Strengthening Relations with Bangladesh

Despite the concerns, Jaiswal reiterated India’s commitment to fostering good relations with Bangladesh. “We support a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh. We want to strengthen our ties so that the people of India and Bangladesh can prosper,” he affirmed. He also addressed Bangladesh’s concerns over India’s border fencing project, clarifying that the initiative aims to combat illegal activities like human and cattle trafficking, as per bilateral agreements.

Strained Bilateral Relations

Relations between India and Bangladesh have been strained since Hasina’s removal. Tensions worsened after the interim Yunus-led administration struggled to prevent attacks on minorities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh.
