India has issued a clear warning to Pakistan over its recent anti-India remarks. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Pakistan’s leadership has been making “reckless, war-mongering and hateful” statements against New Delhi.
It warned that any provocation or misadventure will bring “painful consequences.” The statement adds a new layer of tension to the already-strained India-Pakistan ties.
‘Modus Operandi’ to Hide Failures
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said this is a known pattern of Pakistan’s political and military leadership. They often stir anti-India rhetoric to hide their failures at home.

He stated that whipping up such emotions is their usual way to distract the public from domestic problems. India has stressed that it will not be provoked by such tactics.

Clear Message to Temper Rhetoric
India’s message is direct. Pakistan “would be well-advised to temper its rhetoric,” said Jaiswal. He reminded Islamabad that any attempt at misadventure will be met with strong and painful consequences. This reflects India’s firm stance on national security and cross-border threats.
Indus Waters Treaty in Abeyance
The MEA also rejected Pakistan’s recent comments about an international ‘award.’ Jaiswal reiterated that the Indus Waters Treaty is in abeyance. India made this decision on June 27, 2025, and Pakistan’s ongoing support of cross-border terrorism, particularly the most recent heinous Pahalgam incident, prompted the action.
Rising Tensions & Security Concerns
Tensions in the region were already high at the time, and relations have become even more strained as a result of Pakistan’s remarks. An important change in India’s policy approach may be seen in its decision to associate treaty suspension with terrorism. India’s security procedures are now even more urgent in light of the Pahalgam incident.

Future Flashpoints
The MEA’s warning leaves little doubt about India’s position. It signals that New Delhi will respond strongly to any provocation. The repeated emphasis on “painful consequences” shows the seriousness of the message.
There is no indication that Pakistan would alter its rhetoric, therefore, there is a good chance that tensions between the 2 countries will increase.
