Mumbai (Maharashtra) – Union Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal hailed the India-UAE relationship as a global benchmark of prosperity, trust, and shared vision during the Dubai-India Business Forum held in Mumbai. The high-profile event, hosted by Dubai Chambers, was graced by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, marking his first official visit to India.

In his address, Goyal highlighted the deep historical and cultural connection between Mumbai and Dubai, recalling the centenary of Sheikh Saeed’s visit to India. He applauded Dubai’s ongoing social welfare initiatives, particularly the first hospital for Indian workers in Dubai, calling it a “heartwarming initiative.”
“Dubai has cared for over 2 million Indians like its own family,” he added.
Strategic Visits and Symbolic Projects
The minister noted the frequency of high-level visits—six in just two years—demonstrating the strategic closeness between the two nations. Goyal also commended the UAE’s support in the construction of the Swaminarayan Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi, describing it as a symbol of shared values and mutual respect.
Trade, Tech, and Talent: Growing the CEPA Vision
Goyal placed strong emphasis on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), stating:
“Our goal of achieving USD 100 billion in non-oil trade is well within reach.”
He appreciated the UAE’s investments in India’s logistics, infrastructure, and digital connectivity, especially recognizing DP World’s role in transforming India’s logistics ecosystem.
Future-Ready with Education and Skill Development
Pointing toward the knowledge economy, Goyal spotlighted recent collaborations in higher education:
- IIT campus in Dubai already launched
- IIM and IIFT campuses are in the pipeline
“These initiatives reflect our commitment to deeper engagement in education and skill development,” he said.
India’s Economic Surge: From Workforce to World Force
Quoting Prime Minister Modi, Goyal emphasized:
“India is not just a workforce, we are a world force.”
He projected that India, currently a $4 trillion economy, is set to become:
- 4th largest by 2025
- 3rd largest by 2027
- $30-35 trillion economy by 2047
